Dr Cheryl Rhoades (f) (Partner) MMBChB, MBA(IHM), MRCGP

Trained & Qualified from the University of Cape Town (South Africa) in 2008 and awarded Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, MBChB.

My early career was spent practicing medicine across South Africa including hospital settings in both Cape Town & East London, then in both a Community Health setting and  Psychiatric hospital.

In 2013 I decided to  bring my extensive A&E experience to  Abergavenny (Wales), after which I was a Resident Medical Officer for Nuffield Hospital in Derby. During this time I obtained a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in International Health Management from the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management May 2015.

Desiring a shift towards practicing family medicine I began GP Training in July 2015 through the Lincolnshire GP Vocational Training Scheme which afforded me a wide range of placements as a registrar, gaining experience in, but not limited to obstetrics and gynaecology; paediatrics, psychiatry & general medicine.

Upon completion of my training as a GP, I Graduated MRCGP in 2018 (Membership of the Royal College of General Practice, England), going on to practice in multiple practices & clinics in Lincolnshire. I became a part of the Church Walk Surgery team in 2019 and became a Partner in 2022.

My current role involves managing patients with Diabetes. Nurse Jo-Ann Chappell (f) Practice Nurse

I began my career studying Adult Nursing at the University of Nottingham in 2002, qualifying as a Registered General Nurse in 2005.  During my early career as a newly qualified nurse I worked at Newark Hospital (Sherwood Forest Hospital Trust) on a busy acute medical ward that specialised in Stroke and respiratory medicine. I thoroughly enjoyed my eight years with them, expanding my skills widely beginning a BSc Hons Degree in Health and Social sciences that covered a vast array of subjects from Tissue Viability, Palliative care, Pain management and Evidence based practice to name a few. During this time I also completed the Advanced Life support course with the Resuscitation council.

With a strong interest in District Nursing, I pursued my career and began working for Lincolnshire Community Health Services on the bank as a community nurse alongside my job at Newark. When the opportunity of a permanent post came up in 2013, I joined the team covering the local area, including Metheringham, Branston, Washingborough and Heighington. Again my skills as a nurse quickly advanced completing courses in Diabetes management, Ear syringing, catheter management, bowel management and palliative care. My strength and strongest interest was Tissue viability and wound management – and as part of my role was the Link nurse for the team, regularly updating them on changes/advances within this area.  I thoroughly enjoyed my time District Nursing and progressed to Case Manager in my most recent year with them, completing audits, developing presentations and educating care home staff on the basics of wound management.

In January 2022 I joined the team at Church Walk Surgery as a Practice Nurse and hope to bring my previous knowledge to the team and further my skills within practice nursing, currently completing a course with Leicester De Montford University in the Fundamentals of Practice Nursing. My current role within the practice will expand with the skills obtained during this course.
